Roz Purcell at Renew Clinic Dublin

Image SPF

I swear by this product and have been using it for years. I’m very conscious of sun damage and always look for products that include SPF. Sometimes people only think this is necessary when on holidays abroad but it’s just as important to use SPF in Ireland. I pick this up in Renew Clinic.

Ok, I’m usually pretty bad at regularly making appointments to get my nails done or my hair etc. I usually always need reminding but one thing I have now made part of my routine is going to get microdermabrasion. Obviously with modelling and doing shows you have to wear a lot of make up the whole time so I was always conscious of my skin and not letting pores get blocked. Like most girls, I’ve gone through periods of bad skin and as much as a healthy diet plays a key part for me and my skin, microdermabrasion has really helped too! If you haven’t heard of it before, microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment in which the face is sprayed with exfoliant crystals to remove any dead epidermal cells. I go to Renew Clinic to get mine done.

FACE 2016

This year the Renew Clinic team attended FACE 2016 in London. As always the cream of the dermatology world were there to enlighten us about the latest innovations in the industry. Less is more was a strong message with more new advances in skin tightening devices the need for over filling the face or freezing it with toxin is no more and so out of vogue,  thank god as here at Renew Clinic we have always championed this philosophy. There was also an emphases placed on clear youthful looking skin and what ingredients should be used to achieve this. As always vitamin A (retinol) is a hero ingredient and the higher the dose the better according to Dr Zein Obagi who gave an inspirational lecture on skin health and how to achieve it.

ZO skincare
Vitamin C was another key factor to protect against sun damage, reduce inflammation and allow the skins DNA to reproduce healthy skin cells. Correcting the barrier function of the skin is vital to lock in the skins natural hydration through the use of key antioxidants is another step we must add to our skin care regime. Removing oil from the skin and dead skin cells is important to create a base onto which we apply our skin ingredients so that they can be absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin where they are needed to create collagen.

Based on all we learned at FACE we at Renew Clinic we have developed a simple but effective 4 step skin program for your skin…

1. Remove oil and dead skin cell through active cleanser and Scrub am/pm
2. Activate collagen production & repair skin damage with Vitamin A in the pm
3. Repair barrier function with antioxidant & vitamins C in the am
4. Give added sun protection with oil free SPF.

This simple routine will dramatically improve the feel and texture of your skin. Feel free to book a skin consultation with our nurses at renew clinic to learn more and improve your skin.

We are off to the annual FACE conference in London this week. We are super excited to attend this premier aesthetic conference again!

Looking forward to seeing the leading minds in Aesthetics, discuss new treatments, techniques and products. We are particularly looking forward to catching up with all our colleagues, old and new including Dr. Rachael Eckel and Dr. John Quinn.

We will be excited to bring our new knowledge back to the clinic and sharing with all our lovely clients!

We all know that ageing skin is more than just years on the calendar. Exposure to environmental elements such as sunlight, smoke and general air pollution can lead to photo ageing in skin which results in lines, wrinkles and discolouration in skin. Prevention programmes can help reduce this damage. Studies show that sunscreen alone will give about 55% protection, adding in antioxidant to your daily routine will increase that to approximately 90% protection from environmental damage.

Antioxidants - Renew Clinic

SkinCeuticals full range of antioxidants are considered gold standard in protecting the skin against environmental damage.

 C E Ferulic:

Phloretin CF:

Phloretin CF provides broad spectrum protection to help reinforce the skins natural protection against free radicals. In addition, it helps to correct the visible signs of existing damage such as hyperpigmentation or imperfections, by encouraging cell turnover.

Combination of vitamin C, Phloretin and Ferulic acid provide a more strengthened support structure on the inside and a more youthful, firm and radiant looking appearance on the outside.

Serum 10:

Lightweight, fast absorbing serum. Ideal for sensitive skin types. Reinforces skins natural protection against free radicals.

Resveratrol B E:

With age and ongoing environmental exposure, skin loses its abilities to effectively repair itself at night, this leads to fundamental structure changes, such as loss of density, elasticity and overall skin radiance.

Vampire Facelift at Renew Clinic

Platelet rich plasma has long been used in orthopaedic medicine, dentistry and reconstructive surgery. The benefits are now widely applied to other fields of medicine, such as dermatology, skin wound healing and cosmetic facial rejuvenation. Unlike fillers, that “fill” an area/wrinkle, PRP stimulates your own collagen to grow for total rejuvenation. Can be used very effectively with facial fillers, depending on clients requirements.

What is it?

Platelet rich Plasma or PRP is a natural product created from your own body. A small amount of blood is drawn from you, placed in a sterile tube and spun to separate the different components. Blood cells are separated from the plasma-this plasma contains higher number of platelets and it is this platelet rich plasma that is ready for use.

How does it work?

Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue heal and grow new cells. The PRP, injected into specific areas of the skin, promotes your own collagen production, regenerates tissue and in turn naturally smooths and tightens skin. It softens wrinkles and creates smoother skin texture and tone.

Volumising , plumping. Excellent for softening under eye hollows, improves skin tone, tightness and texture. Softening of fine lines and wrinkles. Can be used on all areas of face, neck and chest. Results can been seen from 4-6 weeks after first treatment. Recommended course of treatments 3-6 with 6 week intervals.

Courteney Cox’s latest appearance at the Ivor Novello Awards in London had many speculating that she has finally succumbed to the knife, after admitting she has always been ‘open’ to prolonging the inevitable.

The actress is engaged again to Irish musician Johnny McDaid, after a brief split, but said that he is not a fan of the ‘Hollywood look’ and prefers a more natural appearance.

However, while she has confessed to getting botox she insisted she would never resort to surgery.

She told Closer magazine: ‘It’s no secret I’ve had some Botox in the past, but I won’t go under the knife.

‘Johnny isn’t into that whole Hollywood look anyway, so I don’t feel pressure to keep looking like a 20-year-old for him.’

Courtney Cox loves Ultherapy

Instead, Courteney claims she’s a fan of alternative treatments to help turn back the clock.

‘I’m a big laser believer. I really think they are the wave of the future,’ she added.

‘I just did Ulthera, which is supposed to produce collagen, and I’m about to do Fraxel, which will get rid of all these brown spots off my arms, chest and face.’

If you are interested in the Ultherapy treatment and would like to book a consultation or a treatment with Dr. Quinn please contact Martina in our Dublin clinic on 016619261 or email us at info@renewclinic.ie  or or book online at your own convenience

Cellulite is horrible isn’t it? Sadly, it’s something our skin seems to be addicted to so we just have to grin and bear it. Or do we? Well my most recent beauty discovery argues to rid us of that yuk wrinkle-like skin on our legs, tummy, arms and even smoothen the skin on your face. Icoone is a machine that does just this. The only machine in Ireland is in Renew Clinic who not only house this miracle machine, but numerous experts in skincare to help you with any skin issue. And I have a few. But I’m starting with cellulite, so Icoone is what I’m going to begin with. So here begins my Cellulite banishing diary with thanks to Renew…

Icoone diary week one: May 9th 2016

The Icoone experience is not exactly comfortable, but no pain no gain right? But I have to say the environment in which this treatment is delivered is absolutely pristine. I have been attending Renew on Hatch Street Dublin for about two weeks now and going somewhere that is exceptionally clean and professional, as well as being greeted with a smile and a welcome, is just lovely.

Icoone anti-cellulite treatment

Scary looking cellulite machine. Slightly alien-looking….

You firstly, step into what can only be described as an unattractive white body stocking that looks like it could only fit a Barbie. The label says “large” but you start to question your own self-worth when you try to work out how you’ll fit in it. But you do. Lying on a treatment bed, the nurse will use the machine over any areas of concern, so for me that’s my legs and tummy. The top of the machine is like a suction pad that is rolled over your skin. Now, here’s what I need to explain. Yes, it sucks on your skin, but it also sucks the life out of your cellulite or the odd bit of fat. Sounds gross, works miracles. Here’s another way of looking at it. Imagine taking your Dyson and running it over your skin. It’s not the most relaxing experience, but the nurse will alter the intensity to suit what you can take. I’m on about five right now, and I went after an hour’s work out on my upper legs, so forgive me if I don’t go into detail on the pain factor.

But I am now four sessions in and I am used to it. My skin is starting to smoothen nicely thank you. I have been measured so I’m fascinated to see what the inch loss is. But so far so good. My skin feels very smooth, and at the end of the week I am going to take another measurement to see the progress. So stay tuned for next week’s Icoone diary…
