Here at Renew Aesthetic Clinic we swear by using antioxidants and it being February it’s a great opportunity to start taking care of your skin.
Here are our top picks and why they are so important:
Properly formulated topical antioxidants have been shown to neutralize skin-damaging free radicals. Some improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration.
Jeanette from Renew was interviewed by the Sunday Independent in regards to the use of Lip Filler. Click here to read the full article.
Jeanette Dunne is the co-owner of Renew Aesthetic Clinic and a registered nurse. While beauty is her business, she says she must have a genuine reason to put filler in someone’s face. “It’s a moral obligation. If a young girl comes in with full and proportionate lips, I won’t fill them.”
Dunne is also concerned that we’ve yet to see the long-term implications of over-filling lips at a young age. “It could have an impact on the tissue, there are a lot of sensory nerves around the mouth.
“When someone comes in to me, I tell them about the things that can happen, from a blocked artery to an allergic reaction or necrosis of the tissue. This is rare, but it can happen, especially if the product is in inexperienced hands.”
With Celeb fans including Kim Kardashian and Bar Refaeli and Anna Friel, the spooky-sounding Vampire Facial or more accurately, PRP Procedure (Platelet Rich Plasma) appears to be a blood thirst affair? Click the image to read the full article.

Ultherapy is a non-surgical ultrasound treatment that stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin deep within the skin. It gradually lifts and sculpts the skin from the inside out without surgery or downtime, and is tried and tested for use in the upper and lower face, neck and décolletage.
It is scientifically proven to stimulate new collagen and elastin which can reverse the signs of ageing. It creates a lift that can last for over a year and the treatment only takes between 60 and 90 minutes with no downtime.
It has also been tried and tested by our own Lorraine Keane at Renew Aesthetic Clinic and you can follow her own experience on the treatment below.

Following in the footsteps of Jen! – by LORRAINE KEANE
Delaying The Signs of Ageing with Ultherapy
I suppose you could say I am reasonably happy with my appearance – I know how to make the most of myself. Let’s face it, being in the public eye for almost two decades means I have learned lots of ‘tricks of the trade’ when it comes to beauty products, treatments and make-up. (I’ve have been sharing those little ‘tips & secrets’ with you at my ‘Keane On Style’ events all over the country). However, over the last couple of years I have noticed that my skin is just getting a little bit looser around my jaw, eyelids and cheekbones. Going under the knife is not something I want to do but I still want to look as young as I can, so discovering a new treatment that promises to give me the improvements I want in a non-invasive, natural way was definitely something I was interested in.
So when I was offered the opportunity to try a non-invasive cosmetic procedure, that is the preferred treatment of some of Hollywoods A listers (Sarah Jessica Parker and Courtney Cox are both advocates) which not only promises to halt the signs of aging (woo-hoo!), but actually reverse them (bonus!) I was very happy to give it a go.
It’s called Ultherapy and it works by rejuvenating your skins collagen.
I was very happy with the results – people have said I look ‘well’, ‘rested’, fresh’, ‘young’, but the changes are subtle. Exactly how I like it. The lovely people at Ultherapy were also happy with the results, so, one year on Merz Aesthetics (the company who bought Ultherapy for a whopping $650 million dollars) approached me and asked me if I would like to help them to spread the word on Ultherapy in Ireland. Jennifer Anniston is spokesperson in the US and Dragons Den Karen Brady is the spokesperson in the UK, so I am chuffed to speak about the benefits of this pioneering treatment with other Irish women – and men! Ultherapy is something that actually works – but in the most natural way possible – no needles or knives just ultrasound & heat.
So I headed to www.renewclinic.ie on Hatch Street in Dublin (they also have clinics in Naas and Drogheda) to have my second Ultherapy treatment just a few weeks ago. (NB: Ultherapy is now available in various Aesthethetic Clinics across the country. Click the link here for your nearest provider.
It is surprisingly quick. I got 2 face zones and jaw-line done in just under two hours. As recommended I took 2 x 500mg Ibuprofen (I hate pain!) and nurse Nicola worked the Ulthera wand over my jaw-line, brow/eye area and cheeks.
Was it painful? Well we all have different thresholds for pain – for me it was like plucking/threading hair or like an elastic band pinching sensation. Let’s just say ‘It was manageable’. Some areas are definitely more sore than others – the bony places with less flesh. If you’ve had IPL Laser Hair Removal you’ll know what I mean, but we were able to chat away throughout the treatment.
Afterwards my face looked flushed, but otherwise there really wasn’t an immediate difference (some people see results straight away). I had quite a bit of swelling on my jaw line a day after the treatment and small bruises on my chin on days 2 to 6 but otherwise there is no down time so I was able to apply make-up straight away and go out about my business for the week. I was on RTE television the same day as my Ultherapy treatment. Nicola tells me it should reach its peak in about three months so I should see a real difference around Christmas time – when you all look partied out, I will look as fresh as a daisy, lol!

Acne scars are a result of inflamed blemishes, caused by skin pores being blocked with excess oil and bacteria. Skin will try to heal these lesions by forming new collagen fibres, which usually less smooth than the natural skin. Picking and squeezing spots will increase risk of scarring. The first step in treatment is to clear skin of any active acne. Topical home care and/or peels, in the weeks prior to treating scars is essential to ensure full clearance. Active ingredients, such as Salicylic acid, Retinol, Benzyl Peroxide, will all help in the reduction of active acne. Ensure a consultation with a skin health expert to ensure correct treatment for your skin type. As always, it is essential to protect your skin from environmental damage with the use of antioxidants and SPF.Once the active problem is under control, you can begin treating the scars.
TREATMENT OF SCARS
Microneedling uses tiny microfine needles which penetrate skin, causing a tiny injury. This in turn encourages your skin to create a healing response, producing collagen and elastin, to heal this injury. This results in smoother skin, even skin tone and reduction in pore size. Overall, the texture will be smoother, the added benefit of reduction in fines lines and anti ageing being a bonus.
Benefits: improvement in texture and tone. Reduction in scars and fine lines.
Recommend treatments: 3-6 treatments depending on severity of scars and desired outcome.
Treatment timeline: treat 3-6 weeks apart.
Visible results: approx 3-6 weeks after 1st treatment.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP can be used on its own, or in conjunction with Microneedling.
PRP uses a natural component of your own body to promote skin rejuvenation.
A small sample of blood is taken from your arm (just like a normal blood test). The blood is put in a centrifuge and 10 minutes later the plasma has separated from the whole blood and is ready for use. This Platelet Rich Plasma can be injected directly into problem areas or can be micro needled into the skin. Sometimes a combination of both is the best option. Again, consultation with your skin health professional will provide you with the best advice.
Benefits: this treatment can help to improve texture, tone, reduce lines and wrinkles and reduce scars.
Recommended treatments: 3-6 treatments, depending on severity of issue and desired outcome.
Treatment timeline: 6 weeks apart.
Visible results: 2-12 weeks post 1st treatment.
TCA peeling uses non toxic crystals dissolved in water to exfoliate deeply in the skin. When TCA is applied to the skin, it causes the top layers of cells to dry up and peel off, over several days. When the old skin is peeled off, it exposes a new layer of undamaged skin, which has a smoother texture and more even colour. This treatment is excellent at treating superficial scarring but also the brown/red blemishes that’s can accompany these scars.
Benefits: reduction in pigmentation. Added benefits of improved pore size, fine lines and wrinkle reduction.
Recommended treatments: up to 4treatments, depending on severity and combinations treatments.
Treatment timeline: 4 weeks apart.
Visible results: 2-4 weeks post treatment.
Hope this helps, until next time.

Sun exposure, time, gravity and poor lifestyle choices can all contribute to ageing of the skin. Over time, we lose elasticity and lines and wrinkles appear due to the decline of collagen and elastin in our skin.
How can we treat this?
Ultherapy is a non-surgical ultrasound treatment. It stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin deep within the skin. This reverses the signs of ageing.
How it works: Ultherapy delivers focused ultrasound energy to the same skin depth targeted by surgeons during cosmetic surgery. Ultherapy does not disrupt the surface of the skin or surrounding tissue. The heat energy initiates the bodys own natural response which stimulates the growth of fresh collagen.
Benefits: It is a non- surgical treatment that takes between 60 and 90 mins.
It is proven to stimulate collagen and elastin.
One treatment can create lift that lasts greater than a year in some clients.
Ultherapy is unique as it allows practitioners to see and target the specific area that needs to be treated. Real results appear over a 2-3 month period as new collagen builds. This gradually lifts the skin but some clients have seen an initial lift after their treatment.
Ultherapy is cleared by the FDA in the US and CE mark certified in the EU.

Beauty by Lorna Weightman
Cellulite is horrible isn’t it? Sadly, it’s something our skin seems to be addicted to so we just have to grin and bear it. Or do we? Well my most recent beauty discovery argues to rid us of that yuk wrinkle-like skin on our legs, tummy, arms and even smoothen the skin on your face. Icoone is a machine that does just this. The only machine in Ireland is in Renew Clinic who not only house this miracle machine, but numerous experts in skincare to help you with any skin issue. And I have a few. But I’m starting with cellulite, so Icoone is what I’m going to begin with. So here begins my Cellulite banishing diary with thanks to Renew…
Well I started the “Bye Bye Cellulite” project back in May with astounding results very quickly. Since June, it’s been one treatment a week (well almost!) and now after 12 sessions of Icoone, I have smoother skin on every area treated. What I should also explain is that there are 10 levels of the treatment, and when I first started, I was at level 5. Now that my skin is used to the treatment, I am on level 8 (although I think my therapist Kelsey likes to up without telling me, all in the name of effective treatments!) which is fairly intense but gives very quick results. I have noticed significant shrinkage on my thighs especially and since my last measurement they’ve actually gone up an inch, but that’s to do with building muscle in my legs with the amount of training I am doing. And this is exactly what I wanted. A toned, healthy body with skin that looks equally healthy. So next up for me is to get my legs out for an instagram snap. So hopefully weather permitting you can check that out on my Insta this Saturday.

Icoone diary week four: June 28th 2016
This whole thing is starting to take shape, literally. My ass is shaping up to give any of the Kardashian’s a run for their money. Well maybe that’s ambitious but I feel great about my shape now. Over the last three weeks, doing two Icoone sessions per week, I’ve managed to shave off six inches from across my hips and two and a half on my waist. Now I have to say that this treatment needs to be balanced with regular exercise and I have turned into a gym bunny, so with four work outs per week, the whole experiment is proving itself to be worth the effort. Not only that, the texture across my tummy especially is smooth and the appearance of cellulite is pretty much gone. Next up, I’m going to try my upper arms which I didn’t think I could do. Now I spend a lot of time on my arms when it comes to working out, so they are fairly toned. But there is still that yukky bingo wing look that isn’t too noticeable, but I notice it. So in my next update I’ll let you know my progress on that.
