Don’t Stress About Baring Your Legs This Summer
Try Sclerotherapy Instead!
08 May 2019
Though it may be hard to believe with the weather we’ve been having this past week, summer is on the way, or at least it should be!
That means longer days and the chance to ditch the trousers in exchange for some pretty skirts and dresses. But, for most of us ladies, if we’re going to show off our legs, we want them to look perfect. Thread veins are enough to keep many people in long trousers year-round, even when it’s baking out. But that needn’t be the case.
At Renew Skin Clinic, we are delighted to offer sclerotherapy, a safe, effective treatment for spider veins which can help restore your confidence and get your legs out at every opportunity – and why not?
Spider veins are those pesky little veins that appear as lots of little purple or red lines, almost like spider legs, flattering, eh? They are more common among women than men and tend to appear both on the face and legs. While laser treatment can work to tackle veins on the face, sclerotherapy gives a better result on the legs.
Unlike their big brother, varicose veins, spider veins don’t usually cause too much discomfort to individuals who have them, but when they become more pronounced, as they can with age, they do make people feel self-conscious. Not that there’s anything wrong with varicose or spider veins, and you’re not the only one who has them. In fact, it’s estimated that anywhere between one-third and two-thirds of adults have either spider or varicose veins, or both!
There are many different factors which can cause varicose and spider veins, with genetics playing a big factor. If you spend a lot of time on your feet or are carrying some extra weight, these can also give rise to varicose or spider veins.
While varicose veins usually need to be treated with surgery, spider veins can be treated successfully as a non-surgical treatment. Sclerotherapy is a straight forward procedure, carried out in the clinic, whereby a number of injections are delivered directly into the vein. The substance used causes the vein to collapse and close. Once the blood flow is stopped, the appearance of the vein subsides over time.
At Renew, our team of nurses have many years of injecting experience, so that you know you are in safe hands.
The procedure itself is straight forward and not too painful as the needles used are very fine. However, there is some aftercare which needs to be adhered to so that you get the best results from your treatment. After treatment, we will fit support tights which need to be worn continuously for the first 72 hours after treatment. After that, you can reduce wearing your support tights to just during the day for a week. After this time, your veins should be on the mend and you won’t need to wear the support tights, but it is necessary to avoid extreme temperatures for 2 weeks and sun exposure for a month.
If you’re going to be travelling on a sun holiday, it’s best to get your sclerotherapy taken care of well in advance so that you will be recovered and can enjoy your bare legs without any worries.
We’ve met so many people who have let their veins get them down and ruin their summer fun. Don’t let that happen to you. If you are concerned about your spider veins, contact your nearest Renew Skin Clinic to arrange a free consultation with a nurse and see if sclerotherapy is suitable to help you regain your leg confidence this summer.
