When I heard about a hot, new cosmetic treatment that is said to reverse the signs of ageing in two sessions and give your skin a youthful glow, I immediately jumped at the chance to learn more about it and see if it really works. As someone in their early forties, ageing may be a natural process, but it doesn’t mean you automatically look at yourself in the mirror and smile at the sight of your fine lines and the fact that your skin is losing elasticity and glow by the day.

Profhilo is an injectable anti-ageing hydrating treatment made from hyaluronic acid for skin that is losing its elasticity due to age. It is a hydrator that works from the inside out to give your skin more laxity, volume and glow. It is important to note, however, that Profhilo is not a dermal filler but made from pure hyaluronic acid and free from any impurities or acid.
How does it work?
Administered over the course of two treatments, 30 days apart, each side of the face receives five injections in each session ranging from the top of your cheekbones to your chin line and lower face. The areas or pockets of skin where the injections are inserted are precisely chosen so they can have space to allow the acid to flow into the surrounding tissue and take effect. It can take a few weeks for the stimulation of collagen and elastin production to work its magic in those targeted areas.
The injections themselves are a little stingy for anyone (me) who has an aversion to needles, but if you don’t, then you don’t have anything to worry about. The areas of the face where the injections were administered can become ever so slightly swollen (the acid resting under the skin before it moves into its targeted area) but it can differ from person to person and one area of the face can be more sensitive than others. My cheekbones, post-treatment, were a little swollen for a few hours, so if you are planning on booking in a session take some time out with no meetings. Trust me, it may be a small ask with a little downtime required, but it will be worth it.
In 30 days, you return to repeat the process, and wait a further 10-14 days to see the full effect.
The Results
Within 14 days of the initial treatment, I could already see the treatment taking effect; my skin appeared less dehydrated with more of a natural glow to it. Following the second treatment and waiting a full 30 days to fully examine my skin, there was a definite improvement to the texture, tone and look — my cheekbones looked more defined and plump and although I didn’t notice any real difference to my fine lines (this treatment is expected to have more effect on deeper set wrinkles), from my point of view, the reduction of the grey tone to my skin and the natural shine and radiance it created was enough for me.
