micro peel vs microdermabrasion
do you really know the difference?
Words by Tanya Grimson
February 28th, 2017
There is always a lot of talk surrounding skin peels and microdermabrasion when it comes to beauty but there is also a degree of confusion in regards to what both treatments actually entail. This is accompanied by trepidation and fear stemming from the word ‘peel’, as flashbacks of Samantha in Sex and the City with her burning skin come to the fore of your mind. Does beauty really come at such a price? With that in mind, we figured the only way to find out the real truth behind the processes was to try them out for ourselves and see if these processes are something we should approach with caution or if they have been harshly judged without real substance. And of course, what really is the difference between the peel and microdermabrasion?
Not wanting to opt for any beauty boutique, we decided to work with Renew Clinic due to the calming fact that the founders and technicians are registered medical nurses who know what they are doing. Note of advice, never ever proceed with an unregistered practitioner without medical expertise, even if they have a good deal on, as this could ultimately result in your loss as you rectify whatever damage may have been done to your skin. So, myself and maven46 co-founder, Agata (who I have to admit was little braver than me) decided to test both treatments and compare the processes and results so you too can have a real life experience of the truths, the myths and the reality.

Facial peels in Dublin that won’t leave you red-faced
Facial peels aren’t as scary as they sound. If you have that Sex and the City scene in your mind, the one where Samantha’s face resembles a disintegrating tomato, you need a little updating.
Peels these days come in varying strengths and can be personalised to your skin’s needs. They work by chemically exfoliating the first few layers of your skin, and revealing the younger skin beneath. Fine lines and pigmentation exist on these few layers, so you remove a few of those too (if you that is something that matters to you).

Peels sound a lot more scary than they actually are because in the past they were pretty aggressive and irritating…remember the Sex In The City episode where Samantha had a chemical peel? Ah, Samantha.. how you’ve given a bad name to everything with the word “peel” in it! Well things have changed… As with all non surgical treatments ingredients and formulations have been refined and today peels are available in much milder strengths and require very little, if any downtime.
The beautiful Rosie Connolly from Hearts, Heels and Handbags came into Renew to have her Peel done recently, and this is the reality of what she looked like after her peel.. nothing scary about this picture! Follow her blog to to find out more info. Hearts, Heels and Handbags
The most important thing with peels is skin preparation at least two weeks prior to your peel. It’s a bit like preparing for a marathon. You wouldn’t try and run one without training! You need to strengthen your skin before you sprint off to the finish line!
Chemical peels are indeed proven safe, especially when done by a professional. Call us at 016619261 to book an appointment with one of our expert Nurses. We look forward to hearing from you!
