Sclerotherapy

Reduce the appearance of spider veins on the legs

What is Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment aimed at reducing the appearance of spider veins and varicose veins. It involves injecting a sclerosing agent directly into the affected veins, causing them to collapse and fade over time. Sclerotherapy is typically performed by a medical doctor.

How it Works

Sclerotherapy works by introducing a sclerosing solution into the targeted veins. The sclerosing agent irritates the vein’s inner lining, leading to inflammation and the formation of blood clots within the vessel. Over time, the treated vein is gradually absorbed by the body and replaced with scar tissue. This process results in the visible reduction or disappearance of the treated veins.

During the procedure, a fine needle is used to inject the sclerosing solution directly into the affected veins. Multiple injections may be required to treat all the desired areas. After the injection, compression may be applied to the treated area to help disperse the solution, promote vein closure, and minimize potential side effects.

What it Treats

Sclerotherapy is primarily used to treat spider veins and small varicose veins, which are common cosmetic concerns. Spider veins are small, dilated blood vessels that appear close to the skin’s surface, often resembling a web-like pattern. Varicose veins are larger, swollen veins that can be twisted or bulging. They are typically blue or purple in color and can cause discomfort or pain.

Sclerotherapy is effective in treating:

Spider veins: Sclerotherapy is particularly successful in reducing the appearance of spider veins, improving their cosmetic appearance. The sclerosing solution causes the veins to collapse, fade, and eventually become less visible.
Small varicose veins: Sclerotherapy can also be used to treat small varicose veins, reducing their size, alleviating symptoms such as pain or discomfort, and improving their overall appearance.
