Acne Awareness Month Tips..

01 June 2023

Let’s dive in to learn the most important tips to help prevent or minimize the appearance of blemishes.

Acne affects millions of people all over the world. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), acne affects 80% of people between the ages of 11 and 30 in some severity.  It can even continue to affect people well into their 40s and 50s. Although acne is generally a harmless skin condition (at least physically), it can severely affect a person’s self-confidence and self-esteem.

Raising awareness about acne can help reduce misinformation and help people understand the consequences of dealing with acne.

Beware of Acne Myths

Acne is not caused by poor hygiene. Acne occurs when a hair follicle (pore) gets clogged with excess oil produced by hormones. Bacteria that live on the skin can then enter the clogged pore and cause inflammation.

Use the Right Products

The cleanser you use is so important in this case, as it can make all the difference. We recommend Clear Cell Salicylic cleanser that will remove impurities (including dirt and grime) and actively work to unclog pores. Clear Cell Salicylic Gel Cleanser removes excess oil while helping to clarify skin without stripping away the skin’s natural moisture. Thus, it will undo the damage caused by heavy makeup, but won’t dry out skin. Many acne-fighting products can leave skin feeling tight and dry. This cleanser works its magic without those uncomfortable effects.

Don’t Pick at Your Skin

It’s easier said than done, because it can be so tempting and satisfying to pop a pimple or pick at a blackhead. However, most of the time, if not all the time, picking at your breakouts and acne can make them worse. In bad cases, you can also cause acne scarring, which can be very difficult to get rid of later.

Don’t Forget SPF

Sunscreen should always be the last step in your skincare routine. It protects from damaging UV rays and keeps skin from not only getting sunburned, but also developing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles earlier than it should.

When it comes to acne, sun exposure can worsen acne scars by making them darker. Applying sunscreen regularly will help prevent this from happening. Some people believe sunscreen can cause pimples, but if you choose a non-comedogenic one, you should be perfectly fine. Non-comedogenic means it won’t clog pores.
