Dermal Fillers – Get Plumped Skin with Fewer Lines in Just 20 Minutes
03 April 2019
As we enter another spring season it means that our skin is one year older and every time we smile, those pesky age lines show even more than usual. But who wants to feel self-conscious about having a good laugh or smiling when you see something that makes your heart sing? No one – and you shouldn’t have to! With dermal fillers, you can make all the facial expressions you like without feeling self-conscious about looking older than you want to.
At Renew Clinic, dermal fillers are a very popular non-surgical anti-aging treatment which helps our clients look and feel more like themselves.
What Do Dermal Fillers Do?
Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance which is injected into the skin, by a qualified professional, to plump the skin. The filler sits under the lines and wrinkles on the face lifting the skin and smoothing it so that the line appears less pronounced or even disappears.
The Aging Process
We all know that a baby has the softest, most perfect skin and that as we grow up environmental damage, genetics and lifestyle all wreak havoc on our skin. By the time we reach about 25, the amount of collagen and elastin we produce is on the decline and by our late twenties’ collagen production stops altogether! So, it’s no wonder we start to age quite quickly from our thirties on.
What are Dermal Fillers Made of?
There is a whole range of dermal fillers available on the market. But not all of them are FDA approved. At Renew Skin Clinic, we only use the highest quality, medically approved, safe dermal fillers on our clients. We use hyaluronic acid fillers from Belotero and Juvederm. We also work with Radiesse, which is made of Calcium Hydroxyapatite, containing calcium and phosphates, which are naturally occurring in the body.
Hyaluronic acid is the most popular type of dermal filler on the market today. It is a naturally occurring sugar found in many parts of the body. You will recognise the name from cosmetic products which often contain Hyaluronic acid. This sugar holds up to 1000 times its own weight in water, keeping the fluid in the skin giving that desirable plumped effect.
What’s Involved?
First of all, the practitioner needs to understand what you’re hoping to achieve by getting dermal fillers and they need to explain the full process to you so that you understand what to expect during and after the treatment, how long the effects will last and how pronounced they will be.
During this consultation, the practitioner should evaluate your face as a whole, rather than focussing on one area. This ensures that any dermal fillers look natural and don’t stick out like a sore thumb! You should feel free to ask any questions that are on your mind about the results, or any risks involved. By all means, ask your practitioner if you can see before and after pictures of their own work on real clients so that you are assured of their experience. It’s also a good idea to ask what fillers they are going to use. Different fillers work on different areas and skin types, so it’s important that your practitioner understands the different products, how they work and how to choose the best one in each situation. This makes sure that you get the right dermal filler for your particular requirements.
If you have any concerns during your initial consultation that aren’t addressed, don’t go ahead with it right then and there. Dermal fillers are a safe, non-invasive way of correcting loss of volume and lines on your skin when done right. However, they should never be administered by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing as serious complications can result. Our faces have a complex vascular system under the surface and in the wrong hands, dermal fillers can cause permanent scarring.
At Renew Skin Clinic we employ only qualified doctors and nurses to carry out our range of treatments. Our nurses who administer dermal fillers have over 50 years combined experience of injecting and understand the facial structure to ensure that the filler sits in the right place.
The treatment is quick, taking only about 20 minutes, and can be a little sore as the needle penetrates the skin, but we can provide a local anaesthetic if desired. The area might be numb for about a half an hour after treatment and swelling can occur the day after. But otherwise, most of the time, clients don’t experience any excessive redness or swelling post-treatment so there is minimal downtime involved. You can wear your make-up as usual the next day, or even have it re-applied by your nurse after your treatment.
After just a 20-minute treatment, you can expect to enjoy the results for about 6 months to a year. That’ll certainly give you something to smile about!
