The Name ‘Vampire Facelift’ Can Turn People Off PRP
Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Let It
25 July 2019
You may have heard the term Vampire Facelift in the media and if so, can be forgiven for thinking ‘those crazy celebs, they’ll try anything!’ Vampire Facelift, the popular name for PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, has been made popular by celebrities including Kim Kardashian. Other celebs who have tried and loved this minimally invasive facial rejuvenation procedure include model Bar Rafaeli, actress Kiera Maguire and actor Rupert Everett.
The name ‘vampire facelift’ comes from the fact that your own blood is drawn from your arm (no, it’s certainly not your neck!) to be used in the procedure. Our staff at Renew Skin Clinic are all medically trained nurses who have the training, skillset and experience to perform this procedure safely.
So what’s involved, as we mentioned, we remove blood, not a whole lot, from your arm. This is then spun using a centrifuge, which is a bit like a high-tech medical salad spinner. As your blood spins at high speed, the different elements of the blood separate. This allows us to extract the platelets in plasma which is used in the second part of your treatment.
Platelets are the main ingredient your body uses in the healing process. They are isolated alongside your own growth factors that help restore your body after an injury and then we inject this Platelet Rich Plasma into the areas of your face, neck and décolletage that need a lift.
What is so great about this treatment is that it doesn’t involve any outside ingredients. It’s 100% natural as the blood has come straight from your own body but is used to rejuvenate your skin in a way that normally doesn’t happen.
PRP treatments have been used in surgical cases for a number of years now given the ability of this procedure to speed up the healing process. It can also be used to treat sports injury but with careful medical research, its use in aesthetics for skin rejuvenation was confirmed. And now it’s a popular treatment for those who want results and are keen to opt for natural injectables - what could be more natural than your own blood?
The injection of PRP into your face or neck can help treat areas of common concern including crow’s feet, lines around the mouth, frown lines and light forehead wrinkles and acne scarring. The PRP helps the area to heal itself, creating new growth, collagen development and, overall, fresher, more youthful skin.
While the pictures you may see of PRP or Vampire Facelifts look rather ghoulish, as we’ve described there’s nothing ghoulish about the procedure at all! It’s a bit like donating blood and then receiving a blood transfusion, except the transfusion is injected into very specific sites on the face and neck using tiny needles.
In terms of pain, this treatment can be a little sore. Anyone who has had a blood test will know how the first part of the treatment will feel. It’s a little pinch in the arm which doesn’t last long. The injections into the face can be uncomfortable, but no more so than any other injection-based facial treatment you may have had in the past. There is a pinch and you can expect it to sting for a time, but again, this doesn’t last long.
At Renew Skin Clinic, we take the health and wellbeing of our clients very seriously, so before we go ahead and perform PRP therapy, we will need to have a full consultation with you to determine whether you are able to have it. There are some medical conditions and prescriptions which may mean that it’s not the best option for you. We will give you a full explanation of how it works and what results you can expect.
There is some after-care involved in PRP or Vampire Facelifts, which will be explained to you by your nurse and, of course, at Renew Skin Clinic, we’re always here to answer any questions you may have at any time. Just give us a call.
The results will start to become noticeable after about 3 – 6 weeks and can continue over time. However, in some cases to achieve the results you desire, a course of treatments may be best. So, there you go! Once you know what’s involved in PRP or a Vampire Facelift it doesn’t sound so scary at all! If you’re considering trying it, give your local Renew Skin Clinic a call or book an appointment online for your free, no obligation consultation. We will be happy to explain everything and put your mind at ease.
We look forward to hearing from you!
